A prayer request:

We have a lot of nurses and teachers in our congregation. The increasing COVID cases have an immediate and deep impact on their work. Let’s lift up our nurses and teachers in prayer today:

May you be safe,

May you have the energy you need,

May you find joy in your labors

And may you be a blessing on others.

Thank you for your faithful and selfless service.

A devotional thought:

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Psalm 20:7

When you’re being attacked, it’s easy to put your trust in chariots and horses. That’s because chariots and horses are very useful tools and might even save your life. But this verse is a reminder that the people of God don’t ultimately put their trust in the tools but in the Giver of the tools. We use tools. But we trust God.

I’m guessing you’ve heard that there’s a very promising vaccine that’s being developed right now. Apparently it’s 90% effective so far and it may be ready for public use in early spring. At least, that’s what I read in the newspaper yesterday. (But it was an American newspaper so who really knows? )

That’s great news and if it’s true that would be a very significant answer to prayer and cause for celebration. But even as we start to become cautiously optimistic about a potential vaccine, let’s remember that our trust is not ultimately in vaccines or anything else to deliver us (though we can and should be thankful for those tools). As the people of God, we trust is in the Giver: the Lord Almighty.

Have a blessed and safe day.

Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s any way that I can serve you.
